In our research we looked at the different types of games such as ‘Just Dance’, ‘Musical Statues’, ‘Pump It Up’ and ‘Zumba Fitness’.
Also we looked at different war dances such as The Haka.
“The Haka is a traditional ancestral war cry, dance, or challenge from the Māori people of New Zealand. It is a posture dance performed by a group, with vigorous movements and stamping of the feet with rhythmically shouted accompaniment.”
The Haka demonstrated below by the New Zealand Rugby team.
We also looked at how the characters within our would could communicate with each other? There is a style of dance called ‘Contact and Improvisation’. This style is completely improvised and you have to react to your partners movements. However, many modern day choreographers use this techniques to choreograph contemporary pieces that represent a story or feeling. For this I liked the example of the music video to Justin Beibers “Love Yourself”
Here is an example of contact and improvisation.
